Raingarden Mix

Raingarden Mix

LITRE/VOL

Raingarden Mix has been engineered as a premium bio-retention filter media for use in minimising and decontaminating storm water run-off in urban areas of Auckland and other regions. Our blend of aged nutrient-rich compost, premium loam topsoil, and sand has been specially designed to absorb water readily, whilst allowing for a slower release of that water, reducing the possibility of overflow onto footpaths and roads.

Raingarden Mix meets all required levels under the Storm water Management Devices Auckland Region GDOI, and is the preferred media specified and installed across Auckland’s significant commercial and urban developments.

    QUALITY STANDARD

We take great care to bring you premium product. Our products are created from recovered green waste and are compliant to the New Zealand Standard NZS: 4454 for Composts, Soil Conditioners and Mulches. Click here for more information about NZS4454

  • HANDLING PROCEDURE

When handling larger volumes of Raingarden Mix, ensure stockpiles are covered to give protection against weather conditions. Do not drive over stockpiles; this will compact the mix. Follow application for placement and do not over compact.

  • INGREDIENTS

    • Aged nutrient rich compost
    • Sand
    • Quality loam topsoil
  • FREIGHTING & APPLYING

A truck & trailer of Raingarden Mix will hold between 25 and 30m³, depending on the mix specification. Due to the high sand content in raingarden media, it is unlikely that this mixture can be blown. Apply as per the specifications stated in the Project documents.

  • RECOMMENDED USE

The Project specifier will generally detail the installation instructions for the raingarden media. In the absence of these, you can view and download the Rain Garden Construction Guide from the Auckland Council website.

    • Rain Garden Mix will maintain healthy plant growth, retain contaminants and reduce flow to the storm water system.
    • Apply Living Earth More than Mulch to a depth of 75mm to assist in maintaining soil moisture and to avoid surface sealing, which reduces permeability.

LIVING EARTH FAQs

See the full list of Living Earth FAQs here.

  • Why is Living Earth Compost so good?

Living Earth Compost is made from only the best ingredients - clean, green organic material. It is brewed to perfection, then thoroughly tested so we know it is good.

  • Where can I buy Living Earth products?

We sell our 40L bags and landscape yard products in selected stockists, see here for more details. We also deliver bulk bags of our products in selected Auckland regions. Simply head to one of our bulk bag product pages to see if we deliver in your area.

  • How does Living Earth Compost become 100% weed-free?

Thanks to the activity of all the worker bugs breaking down the material in the composting process, the temperature quickly reaches above 55 degrees. After three days at this heat all weed seeds are killed.

  • Is there a qualifying standard for compost produced in NZ?

Yes, there is. Living Earth Compost conforms to NZ standard 4454:2005, a standard that provides assurance that all composted matter is safe to use for the home gardener. The standard sets a quality level that Living Earth exceeds in the compost it produces.

  • How does Living Earth test its compost?

We test every batch of compost at our on-site lab and with growth trials to ensure quality standards are met with the plants growing healthily. Other independent lab tests are performed to check levels of nutrients and to ensure the compost meets NZ standards.
