Living Earth in the Gardening Community

At Living Earth we believe that the best gardens are achieved by having the best soils in which to grow plants. It is worth remembering that what you grow your veggies in is what your children eat!

We want to see more of you growing your own food and more of you enjoying your beautiful gardens - relaxing in them, smelling the flowers and watching whole eco-systems existing in one small suburban space.

In order to make this happen, Living Earth commits to many community projects by donating or discounting its top quality planting media, so that school children can learn to grow food, NZ plant species can re-vegetate in once barren areas and community planting groups can teach gardening – an art lost over the past 20 years of rapid urbanisation.

Let’s Beat Diabetes – Gardening for Sustainability & Health Initiative

A partnership between Counties Manukau District Health Board and Manukau City Council, community gardens have been established around Manukau City on unused sites, such as obsolete bowling greens and in parks. Local residents can register for a generous sized plot of healthy soil and, with the guidance of a mentor, learn to grow veggies and other food. Living Earth has provided soil both gratis and at cost for these areas, as well as mix in which to raise seed.

Various schools and church groups in the area are part of the scheme and have an assisted pricing schedule for Living Earth compost and growing media.

Mototapu Island – Revegetation of Native Plant Species

Living Earth is partner in the restoration of native plant species of this beautiful island. We provide the necessary growing media for cultivation of those plants in the Island’s nursery. Long term it is envisaged that Mototapu will be an idyllic example of pre-European vegetation, pest-free and only a short distance from busy Auckland!

Living Earth’s Garden – The Staff ‘Veggie Patch’ on beautiful Puketutu Island

Since we make the best growing media around we’d be mad not to grow our own veggies. In our veggie garden on Puketutu Island our staff can harvest all the seasonal veggies, herbs and fruits we grow. But will someone tell us why the strawberries disappear as soon as they turn red?
